About the project

Talkie is a speaking coach for people who know a language on paper but freeze when they have to use it: in a team sync, at a coffee counter, meeting someone new. It started in 2021 as a flashcard concept. In 2026 I came back to it, redesigned it around real conversations, and designed and built the app myself.

The app is four tabs, each a different way into the same daily habit. Today opens on one focus phrase from a daily theme, a streak and a short pronunciation tip, so there is always something small to do. Rewrite takes a sentence you typed and gives it back the way a native speaker would say it. Practice drops you into one-minute scenarios, like a team sync, a coffee shop chat or a networking event, that you can type or speak through. Library keeps the phrases you save so you can study them again.

I kept the interface quiet so the language does the work: large type for the phrase in focus, one red for what matters right now, plain cards for everything else, and a mascot to keep it friendly. Everything can be tried without an account; signing in only keeps your chats and phrases.
