About the project
Kiddo Bento helps parents answer the same question every school night: what goes in the lunchbox tomorrow? I first designed it in 2020 as a recipe shuffler with a prep-time slider and a meal plan. In 2025 I rethought it around each child and designed and built the app myself.
It starts with three quick questions about your kids: their ages, what to keep out and what the family loves. From then on every bento is made for them. Today's bento fills a box with five small recipes you can save, swap one by one, or lock while you shuffle the rest. Chef Kiddo, an AI sous-chef, takes what's in your fridge, or a photo of it, and suggests a box: use up leftovers, done in ten minutes, something for a picky eater. My Boxes and My Recipes keep the lunches that worked, and each recipe shows its protein, fibre and energy, with a note when it has been checked against a child's allergies.
The look stays soft and calm, a mint ground with food as the colour, because it is used by tired parents late in the day. Every screen leads to one clear next step, and setup takes about a minute.
